WhatsApp data backup on Android phones is saved via Google Drive, allowing you to restore your data if you delete and reinstall WhatsApp or switch to a new phone.
Follow these steps to back up WhatsApp on your Android device:
- Open WhatsApp on your phone.
- Tap the menu icon (three vertical dots) at the top right.
- Select Settings.
- Choose Chats.
- Tap Chat backup.
- Select Google Drive settings to set backup frequency.
- Choose the Account to use for backup.
- Tap Allow if prompted.
- Select Back up over to choose your preferred network (Wi-Fi or mobile data).
- Enable Include videos if you want video backups.
- Tap Back Up to start the backup process.
WhatsApp Backup on iPhone
On iPhones, WhatsApp backups are saved via iCloud. Follow these steps to back up your WhatsApp data:
- Open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
- Tap Settings (gear icon) at the bottom right.
- Select Chats.
- Tap Chat Backup.
- Tap Back Up Now to upload a backup to your iCloud account.
- To schedule automatic backups, select Auto Backup.
- Choose the backup frequency: daily, weekly, or monthly.
- Enable Include videos to back up videos as well.
How to Restore WhatsApp Backup
To restore a backup on a new Android device, follow these steps:
- Install WhatsApp on the new phone.
- Open the app and enter your phone number.
- Verify the number using the SMS code.
- Tap Restore when prompted.
- After the restoration completes, tap Next.
Where Can You Find Your WhatsApp Backup?

On Android devices:
Backups are stored in your Google Drive account. You can check your backups by visiting Google Drive Backups and logging in with the Google account linked to your WhatsApp. -
On iPhone devices:
Backups are saved in your iCloud account. To check your backup, go to:
Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Storage > Backups and select your device's backup to view details.
